Google PR Update | Link Building Assessment




How’s your Google Page Rank? Is it now increasing or decreasing?  As we all know, the blogosphere became exciting this week as Google has updated Page Rank score on various websites in the web. If you have check out through Google realtime search, you can see that the latest trending topic is the Google page rank update. 

So what’s going on with the Page Rank update? To those who do not know about this Google Page Rank, you must be aware that Google Page rank is based on back links and back links are links pointing to your website from another website. And the more quality backlinks you have the higher your PR will be. The mechanism is as that simple yet complicated.

For those who got a good PR now and for those who have a decreased PR, let’s have some assessment about the number and the quality of your backlinks. You can check out your backlinks through Yahoo Site Explorer or  SEOMoz Open Site Explorer.

Are your backlinks come from significant, high quality and trusted websites? 

Always remember that the links acquired from significant, high quality and trusted websites are more valuable even if they come from the pages that are less significant. Make sure to have backlinks from this kind of websites for they will help you perk up the quality of the search results at the same time increase your search engines ranking.

Do you have a good number of quality and diversified external links? 

Keep this in mind to get a good number of external links (from different website platforms such as forum, blogs, social bookmarking sites, social media web 2.0, etc) than of internal links. Reverse engineering has shown that external links have a higher authority on the Google Page Rank when compared with internal links. Install SEOBook toolbar and use its X-ray feature to see the number of your external links and internal links. You can also use SEOquake Toolbar to check external links as well as internal links.

Do you have contextual backlinks? 

Contextual links have more value to Google compared with those links that are present in the navigation, sidebars, and footers. Just make sure you have link to a content related to your niche. You can read some guidelines about contextual linking here. 

Are you using a keyword rich anchor text? 

Having a keyword rich anchor text in the form of HTML will give a great bang to your Page Rank as well as ranking higher with your chosen keywords.  So it is advisable to optimize the anchor text properly together with your link and/or targeted page links.

Do you keep away from spam links and content farms?

Always keep away from spam links and content farms. Spam links can be found in a content festooned with a lot of links to different websites which are not relevant to the article.  Content farms on the otherhand are commonly found in an uncategorized link pages.

Also, don’t rely on link exchanges in your link building. Google keeps an eye in reciprocal linking and gives it a low value in ranking. 

Are your links more on HTML code? 

This is important as Google crawlers primarily read text only. Those backlinks that are higher up in the HTML code of a webpage with a good keyword in it could give a boost in your optimization strategy. Always have your links in the HTML coding to get maximum benefit from it.
